Have got / Has Got
Have got / has got – Possession
In this lesson we are going to learn vocabulary related to the possession. We use “has got” with the third preson singular(he, she, it, Ali) and “have got” is used for other pronouns (I, We, You, They ).
Remember most of American people frequently use “got” in their conversation.
Sample sentences:
I have got a phone – I have a phone.
She has got a beautiful toy – She has a nice toy
You can also use abbreviations. They are as follows:
I’ve got
You’ve got
He’s got
She’s got
It’s got
We’ve got
You’ve got
They’ve got
English people rarely use these abbreviations, especially those in the third person singular
(he, she, it).
Negative sentences
Has not got – have not / do not exercise (people: He, She, It) or
Have not got – have not / do not exercise (in other people)
We may also use the abbreviations:
Hasn’t got – (person: He, She, It)
Haven’t got – (for other people)
English people use very often abbreviations in the negation . You should learn these abbreviations!
Some examples:
They haven’t got a car – you do not have a car
She hasn’t got a fridge – She have no refrigerators
Now we learn how to construct question.
We use inversion. On the first place is have-ha, is on the second place person, and at the end
of “got” and rest of the sentence:
Have you got a car – you have a car?
Has he got a carpet – Does he have a carpet?
